Music The music curriculum provides students with an exposure to musical motivation, theory and related-history. In addition, the instrumental and vocal music affords students an opportunity to enhance their self-concept, musical interests and talent.
Chorus 1 Grade Level: 9-12 Prerequisite: None. An introduction to final choral experiences for students. Materials are used to enhance student knowledge and their appreciation for the choral medium through reading, diction, and musical growth. Large and small group classroom instruction and musical performances are also part of this course. A full year course. .5 credits
Chorus 2 Grade Level: 9-12 Prerequisite: Chorus 1 or equivalent. A continuation of choral experiences for the student’s Choral literature of all periods of music is studied. All of the elements of final vocal production are mastered and performed. Large and small group instruction and performances are part of this course. A full year course. .5 credits
Beginning Band Grade Level: 9-12 Prerequisite: None. Open to students with little or no experience in the playing of band instruments, this class is intended for students who have not learned to play a band instrument in earlier grades. Instruments are supplied by the City School District on a rental basis, insofar as instruments are available. Group and individual instruction. A full year course. .5 credits
Intermediate Band Grade Level: 9-12 Prerequisite: Beginning Band or equivalent. Students will gain experience in both concert and marching band beyond the beginning level. Instruments are supplied by the City School District on a rental basis insofar as they are available. Group and individual instruction. A full-year course. .5 credits
Advanced Band Grade Level: 9-12 Prerequisite: Intermediate Band or equivalent. Through the study of wind ensemble music, students will gain experience in both concert band and marching band. Participation offers students the opportunity to expand skill and performance on their particular instruments. Large group and individual instruction and performances. A full year course. .5 credits
Voice I Grade Level: 9-12 Prerequisite: None. Individual voice instruction in a class setting designed to develop poise and self-assurance in the solo performer or ensemble member. This acquaints the student with a sample repertoire of art songs, folk songs, popular songs, and small ensemble works. A full year course. .5 credits
Voice II Grade level: 10-12 Prerequisite: None. Voice II offers individual instruction in a classroom setting designed to further develop the skills learned in Voice I. The students study correct vocal production and the use of the voice in relation to the various styles of music. A full year course. .5 credits
Keyboard 1 Grade Level: 9-12 An introductory course in keyboard study. Student’s study and practice as a group on individual keyboards. One-semester course. .5 credits
